As told by original founding member Ronnie Younkins.
Kix was started by me and Donnie Purnell in Dec. of 1977 in Hagerstown, Maryland.
The first song we played together was Atomic Bombs. At first we played with two guys, a guitarist and drummer, from Pittsburg, PA. The first practices were at the Old Mill Inn, in Williamsport, MD, just outside of Hagerstown. However, since they lived so far away the rehearsals didn't work out. So we started rehearsing with Brian Forsythe, one of the best guitarists around, whom I asked to join the new band. Soon after, we invited Donnie Spence to join us as a drummer. Unfortunately though we had to pick him up every day for rehearsals, since he didn't have a car.
Hitting the club circuit six nights a week for three straight years resulted in the band cultivating a huge local fan base and led to a contract with the Time Warner affiliate. Releasing their self-titled debut in 1981, Kix featured live favorites like "Atomic Bombs," "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" and "The Kid." To support the release, the quintet set out to hit every club up and down the East Coast.
Friday 7:00 - 8:00 PM
Vixen was founded in St Paul, MN by guitarist Jan Kuehnemund. Driven by rock star dreams, like so many before her, Kuehnemund packed up her group and headed for Hollywood. Kuehnemund soon re-tooled the lineup to include vocalist Janet Gardner, drummer, Roxy Petrucci, and bassist Share Pedersen (Ross).
Vixen quickly built their reputation playing the infamous Sunset Strip and signed a major label deal with EMI. Vixen’s first hit single, “Edge of a Broken Heart” penned by Richard Marx and Fee Waybill (The Tubes) blasted onto the Billboard charts fueled by heavy video rotation on MTV. Their self-titled freshmen LP garnered two more knee droppers with “Cryin’” and “Love made Me” both charting on the Billboard hot 100 top 40. It was the group’s live performances opening for the Scorpions, Ozzy and Bon Jovi that established Vixen as a premiere rock act to be taken seriously.
In 1990, ”Rev it Up”, Vixen’s second LP produced the monster rocker “How Much Love”, scorching ballad, “Love is a Killer”‘ and the upbeat “Not a Minute Too Soon” cementing their reputation not only as formidable performers, but as hit songwriters. The group Vixen-ized their fans on worldwide tours with heavyweights Deep Purple and KISS, which fueled the international frenzy.

Picture being in a band and playing a cover of one of 3 Doors Down's hits to a sweaty and packed club of rowdy rock fans. Now picture being in that same band, but being in the studio eye-to-eye with 3 Door Down's guitarist producing an album of your original music. For Minneapolis, MN's modern rock band Strange Daze that fairy tale has come true—only it took a a little bit of time. On November 12th, Strange Daze releases, Shine Through (Rock Ridge Music), an anthemic album of modern rock forged in fiery emotional urgency.
Strange Daze has gigged extensively throughout Minnesota and the Midwest, averaging 100-plus shows a year. Coming up, the quartet did heavy lifting through covering a broad array of modern pop— everything from Prince to Tom Petty to 3 Doors Down to Pearl Jam—electrifying club goers with top-notch versions of their favorite tunes while slowly integrating original music. This savvy approach helped Strange Daze win over a devoted and diverse fan base, and it also boldly tested Strange Daze's songwriting prowess by placing the band's originals side-by-side with pop classics.

Self described as “Pop (Metal) Punk” the band Dark Side started as a long awaited collaborative effort between three friends. Although the three members of the band had worked on music together, they had never officially established a band. “I consider myself very fortunate to have musicians that just get what I’m going for,” says lead singer Mark Pawlowski. The band released three tracks earlier this year from an upcoming album to be titled “The Priory” that is available for free download online. “We just ran through the recording process as quickly as we could since we knew we were going to be giving it away, but it ended up sounding a lot better than we expected and really gives the raw sound we are looking for,” Pawlowski says.
